2011 1st Annual Car Collector Appreciation Day

Collector Car Appreciation Day in New Mexico

On July 6, Governor Susana Martinez proclaimed that July 8, 2011 would be recognized as Collector Car Appreciation Day in the state of New Mexico. In Albuquerque, Mayor R J Berry endorsed an event to celebrate the occasion in the state’s most collector-car friendly city.

The New Mexico Council of Car Clubs organized the Albuquerque event.Albuquerque officially celebrated the day with an old-fashioned Cruize down Historic Route 66, now known as Central Avenue. At the end of the ride, the public and participants were welcomed to a traditional picnic at the downtown Mild to Wild hot rod shop. The picnic included southwest summer food and sixties music – amid the distraction of collector cars.

NMCCC President Dennis Seibert interrupted the music long enough to introduce Doug Lutz, representing the mayor’s office.Mr. Lutz welcomed everyone to the celebration, and affirmed the mayor’s (and the city’s) enthusiastic support of the hobby. NMCCC Vice President John Doran read the Governor’s proclamation for the assembled crowd.

This was the first annual Collector Car Appreciation Day in New Mexico, and we hope that next year will be larger and more spectacular.
